Bloomsburg Women's Basketball Drops Game to California (Pa)

BLOOMSBURG - California's Kim Nowakowski scored a game high 28 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Vulcans to an 84-72 win over the Bloomsburg University Women's Basketball team on Saturday afternoon.

The game was tightly contested throughout the first half. Junior guard Kirby Johnson (Woodstown N.J./Glocuster CC) hit a jumper as time expired in the first half to give the Huskies a 41-40 lead going into halftime.

However in the second half the Vulcans were able to pull away. With the California leading 51-49 and 12:45 remaining, the Vulcans went on a 17-2 run to extend their lead to 68-52 and put the game out of reach for the Huskies.

The Huskies had four players score in double-digits despite the loss. Jamie Kauczka (Kingston/ Wyoming Valley West) scored a double-double, dropping 19 points and grabbing 11 rebounds. Johnson and Kelly Burkhart (Sayre/ Athens) each had 17 points, while Laura Lyons (Hatfield/ Pennridge) had 12.

Bloomsburg falls to 3-8, while California improves to 9-3 on the year. The Huskies return to action tomorrow at home against Shippensburg at 1 p.m.
